SUMMARY

Coquitlam-Burke Mountain BC Liberal MLA Doug Horne will remain in the legislature for another four years after winning Tuesday night's election.

Horne took 50.6% of the vote, significantly ahead of NDP challenger Chris Wilson, who garnered 36.72%.

"I look forward to the next four years because this is going to be exciting," Horne told a crowd of supporters at the Westwood Gold and Country Club after the final results were announced. "I really think it's a great thing for us all. We all worked hard."

During a concession speech at the Port Coquitlam Legion, where NDP supporters gathers to watch the election returns, Wilson thanked the crowd and said he was disappointed in the results.

"A lot of you know that I had a bit of a career in wrestling," he said. "It is no coincidence that I have experienced the agony of defeat and the thrill of victory and I hate losing."

Holding back tears, he said he would make it up to his supporters by winning the riding in 2017.

"The only way I can truly show you my appreciation is to become the next NDP MLA for Coquitlam-Burke Mountain," he told the crowd.

According to Elections BC, Green Party candidate Ron Peters finished in third place with 6.3% of the vote, while BC Conservative candidate Shane Kennedy took 5.36%. Libertarian candidate Paul Geddes rounded out the field with 1.47% of the vote.
