Emergency team dispatched after firearms report at Richmond hotel

The hotel was evacuated and cordoned off for safety reasons.

A report of a man with firearms shut down a Richmond hotel on Wednesday morning. 

The Richmond RCMP received a report around 8:45 a.m. of a man with firearms at the Travelodge Hotel on St. Edwards Drive near Bridgeport Road.

The hotel was evacuated and cordoned off for the safety of police and the public, according to RCMP. 

During the incident, Richmond RCMP were assisted by the Integrated Lower Mainland Emergency Response Team.

The man was taken into custody by the emergency response team shortly after noon.

Police say there is no on-going risk to the public and the hotel has re-opened to the public. 

Richmond RCMP's general investigation section is investigating but police say no more information is being released at this time.
