Evergreen construction ramping up in the Tri-Cities

Construction on the Evergreen Line's elevated guideway through Port Moody west of Ioco Road will begin this month.

Construction on the Evergreen Line's elevated guideway through Port Moody west of Ioco Road will begin this month.

Between November and March, intermittent pile driving and placement of reinforced steel and concrete will take place in the area between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m.

Nearby residents are expected to hear some noise coming from the site but EGRT Construction, the Evergreen Line contractor, said efforts will be made to minimize the noise.

Port Moody is not the only area in the Tri-Cities to see Evergreen construction begin to ramp-up.

In Coquitlam, the sidewalk on the east side of Clarke Road adjacent to Burquitlam Plaza will close this week and will not re-open until next year.

While the closure is in place, pedestrians will be detoured to the west side of Clarke Road to access Como Lake Avenue and will only be able to access the plaza from north and south entrances.

Temporary nighttime road closures are also expected on Como Lake between Clarke Road and Elmwood Street this week (Nov. 23 to Nov. 30).

Crews will be using a large crane to move the launching truss into its final position so that it is ready to hoist segments and begin construction of the elevated guideway.

The closure will take place between 8 p.m. and 8 a.m., with westbound closures beginning at 6 p.m.

Drivers travelling westbound will be detoured left on Clarke Road to Smith Avenue. They will then be detoured north on North Road to continue travelling westbound on Como Lake Avenue.

Drivers travelling eastbound on Como Lake Avenue will be detoured right on North Road to Smith Avenue. They will then be detoured onto Clarke Road northbound continuing on to Como Lake Avenue.

Drivers and local residents are asked to watch for construction signs and obey all traffic control personnel.
