The fire danger rating in the city of Port Moody has been upgraded to high after a week-long heat wave dried most of the forest surface in the municipality's surrounding area.
"A discarded cigarette or a spark from a campfire or bonfire into these fuels will most likely result in a fire start," said the city on its website. "An onshore breeze or an outflow wind added to any small fire could potentially see rapid growth."
Construction workers are advised to use extra caution and have fire suppression equipment on hand when welding, grinding or cutting steel near grassy or forested areas.
