About 20 Coquitlam firefighters were on the scene of a house fire on Foster Avenue Thursday night.
Assistant Chief Stu Aspinall said the department was dispatched at around 7:25 p.m. after the resident smelled smoke from his basement and fled to a neighbour's home.
"There was a lot of damage to the basement," Aspinall said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation; however, the owner has home insurance, he said.
