Firefighters' flapjacks raise money

Port Moody firefighters raised a record $18,000 at this year's annual pancake breakfast for charity.

Port Moody firefighters raised a record $18,000 at this year's annual pancake breakfast for charity.

An estimated 2,000 to 2,500 people attended the Canada Day weekend event at Port Moody city hall where about 40 staff firefighters and volunteer firefighters served up flapjacks for a good cause.

Money raised at the annual event goes to a variety of local charities including the Eagle Ridge Hospital Foundation, Crossroads Hospice and the BC Professional Firefighters' Burn Fund.

The growing popularity of the event, volunteer work of firefighters and cooperation from the weather, led to the event's success said Port Moody deputy fire chief Gord Parker.
