Coquitlam firefighters moved to Burke Mountain this week to offer quicker response times to the ever-growing area.

On Thursday, 16 members of Engine Company 4 relocated to the new fire hall at 3501 David Ave., a facility that's built to post-disaster standards and was completely funded by casino revenues.

A treasury spokesperson told The Tri-City News the city has borrowed $10.6 million from the Municipal Finance Authority of BC and will repay the loan over the next two years.

Last year, Coquitlam received about $6.3 million from the provincial government as host city to the Hard Rock Casino Vancouver, located on United Boulevard.

The city is planning to allow homes for 20,000 more residents on Burke Mountain in the next 15 years, a community the size of Pitt Meadows.

A public open house for the fire hall will be held on March 28.
