First Evergreen Line contracts awarded

The first construction contracts for the Evergreen Line were announced at a press conference in Port Moody this morning. Langley-based Pedre Contractors Ltd. will install new underground power lines in Port Moody and Coquitlam.

The first construction contracts for the Evergreen Line were announced at a press conference in Port Moody this morning.

Langley-based Pedre Contractors Ltd. will install new underground power lines in Port Moody and Coquitlam. The lines will provide power to build the bored tunnel and supply power for the operation of the Evergreen Line.

Hans Demolition and Excavating, based in Surrey, will remove two vacant buildings in Coquitlam and one in Burnaby.

Pre-construction activities also expected to begin soon include road widening, relocating utilities, realigning railway tracks and removing vacant buildings.

The Evergreen Line is expected to cost $1.4 billion; B.C. is kicking in $583 million, with up to $417 million from Ottawa and $400 million from TransLink.

Completion is slated for the summer of 2016.
