A plaque will go up along a Port Coquitlam trail next summer to honour a past mayor.

Last Friday, at a private event, the city unveiled the commemoration marker in honour of Greg Moore.

The Greg Moore Trail will link Coast Meridian Road (at Cedar Creek) with Lincoln Avenue (at Cedar Drive); the 2.3-km route will be updated with wayfinding and educational signs, gravel surfacing and drainage improvements.

Moore, who was a councillor from 2002 to ’08, then mayor until last fall, when he did not run for re-election, also received the city’s highest honour: the Freedom of the City.

The award is presented to outstanding residents as well as former elected officials who have served at least two terms.

The designation comes with a plaque and free admission for them and their spouses to city recreation centres.

PoCo has given the honour to 11 people since 2013.
