FortisBC will institute a new detour on Como Lake Avenue as early Friday morning as it continues it gas line upgrades in the area.
The detour will be between North Road and Clarke Road and will be for eastbound traffic. As it comes off of Broadway in Burnaby, it will be diverted down North to Smith Avenue and then on to Clarke. One westbound lane will be kept open during construction.
"This detour will give our crews the space they need to complete construction in the area safely and as quickly as possible," said a FortisBC press release.
Local residents will still have access. Properties on the south side of Como Lake can be accessed by left-hand turns while those on the north side will be accessible by right-hand turns. Motorists will not be able to exit on to Como Lake via Farrow or Tyndall streets. Businesses in the area are open.
The detour is expected to last until early September, although work will continue after that with one lane open in each direction.
