It’s free rides on the bus for kids this week.

Children and youth will be able to take trips on transit buses next week as part of the ninth annual I Love Transit Week.

The freebie opportunity for students from kindergarten to Grade 12 on all TransLink buses begins at the start of service on Monday, Oct. 1 and will run through until end of service on Friday, Oct. 5.

“The goal is to promote transit use and active participation at an early age, to encourage transit use throughout their lives,” said a TransLink press release.

In the past, said the release, teachers often take the opportunity to do field trips for their classes using transit buses. The promotion does not include SkyTrain, SeaBus or the West Coast express.

As part of the week, students can win a field trip to attend I Love Transit Camp, which is a behind-the-scenes look at SkyTrain and the bus fleet facilities. TransLink is also offering a chance for 11 classes to win up to 35 day passes per class for travel on the transit system whenever they want.
