Coquitlam RCMP's Prolific Target Team (PTT), which was working in the area at the time to locate a high-risk offender, watched the man as he got off his bike and hop a fence to allegedly steal high-tech surveying tools from the back of a truck.

He then mounted his bike with the loot and tried to ride away.

"Needless to say, the suspect was arrested red-handed and we were able to recover all the tools," Cpl. Jamie Chung said in a news release.

The tools - valued at around $30,000 - were returned to the owner, who was working in the area.

Charged with theft, possession of break-in instruments and breach of undertaking is Iouri Strijik, 25, of Coquitlam; he has been released on $2,000 bail and is due in court on Wednesday.
