A pair of gas line ruptures kept Fortis BC crews busy Thursday.

In Port Moody, lightning struck a tree in the Arrowood Place neighbourhood, and the current travelled down into the ground and damaged a service line, said Grace Pickell, Fortis BC spokesperson.

Repair crews were alerted to the problem at 6:44 p.m., and had the damage fixed by 9:05 p.m., she said.

Four homes were affected, Pickell added.

In Port Coquitlam, 26 people were evacuated Thursday by the fire department after an excavator accidentally broke a gas line in the 2100-block of Nova Scotia Avenue.

The incident happened just before 3 p.m., said Pickell, and the damage was repaired by 3:30 p.m.
