A grandmother in her 60s foiled a robbery attempt by two suspects outside a Coquitlam bank at Johnson Street and Barnet Highway this afternoon (Thursday).
At about 1:30 p.m. the 66-year-old woman had just returned to her vehicle after withdrawing cash for an upcoming trip. A female suspect had allegedly let the air out of the victim's tire, then approached the woman apparently to notify her there was something wrong with her vehicle.
While the grandmother got out to look at the tire, a male suspect appeared out of nowhere and allegedly grabbed the victim's purse from inside her vehicle.
"I saw my purse under his arm and I don't even have to check inside my car to make sure," the woman said. "I knew that was my purse. So I chased him right away and that's when he dropped it on the ground."
The male suspect jumped into a getaway car, described as an older model black Honda with no licence plates, and the duo fled the scene; police flooded the area immediately but the suspects were nowhere to be found.
The female suspect is described as a heavyset Caucasian woman in her 30s who was wearing a low-cut red top, while the male suspect is possibly an Asian man in his 30s with some facial hair, about 5'6" tall with an average build and wearing dark or black clothing.
Witnesses who haven't spoken to investigators related to this incident are asked to call Coquitlam RCMP at 604-945-1550 and quote file number 2013-7635.
