B.C.'s only seniors care facility that offers services in French is getting a make over.

Tomorrow, Friday, officials will be on site at 1010 Alderson Avenue in Coquitlam for a groundbreaking ceremony for a new $29 million facility.

The redevelopment project will add 80 new complex care beds for high-needs seniors in addition to the 45 beds that had been provided in the 44-year-old facility before it was demolished.

The new structure will take up more space than the original building, once the tallest building in Coquitlam, but will only be three and a half storeys high.

Through BC Housing, the B.C. government arranged approximately $25 million in mortgage financing for the project, Société du Foyer Maillard provided over $4.1 million in equity, and Fraser Health will provide over $8.2 million in annual operating funds.

The Tri-Cities was identified in 2013 as one of four communities across the region in need of increased residential care capacity due to rapid growth in the senior's population.
