Have your say in Pinecone Burke master plan

The deadline is nearing for Tri-City residents and groups wanting to help shape the long-term vision for a provincial park north of Coquitlam.

BC Parks will accept feedback until Nov. 30 on its draft management plan for Pinecone Burke, a 380 sq km Class A park popular with backcountry paddlers, campers, mountain bikers, hunters and environmentalists.

The largely unserviced park, which includes Burke Mountain in Coquitlam and contains parts of the traditional territory of the Katzie First Nation, has been without a master plan since it was established in 1996.

In its online survey (env.gov.bc.ca/bcparks/planning/mgmtplns/pinecone-burke/comments.html), BC Parks and Katzie are asking for the public's input on the parts of the park they visit - Burke Mountain, Widgeon Creek and Lake, West Pitt Lake, Boise Valley and Pinecone Lake - and for what reason.

The public is also asked to rank key issues for the park such as access, maintenance and development as well as environmental and archaeological significance.

The draft master plan will be presented this spring for further review and comment while the final management plan is expected to be released next summer.
