The spate of sunny weather is over for now as Environment Canada is issuing a special weather statement due to heavy rains expected tonight in Metro Vancouver, including the Tri-Cities.
A frontal system currently over the B.C. north and central coasts is expected move southward today bringing heavy rains to the region.
Vancouver Island will get the deluge first, followed by the south coast tonight.
Over the south coast, the frontal system will become entrenched overnight and through Tuesday afternoon, according to Environment Canada.
Rainfall amounts of 50 to 75 mm could occur over most of Metro Vancouver, the Fraser Valley, Howe Sound, as well as East Vancouver Island between Nanoose Bay and Fanny Bay.
The weather agency asks residents to continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.
