The civic elections in Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam and Port Moody last November cost taxpayers nearly half a million dollars.

In Coquitlam, the price tag for the vote was around $325,000 or $14.78 for each of the 21,987 ballots cast.

By comparison, the bill in Port Coquitlam came to about $55,000 or $5.54 for each of the 9,922 ballots marked. And in Port Moody, the tally was more than $40,000 or $5.37 for each of the 7,813 ballots entered.

In all three municipalities, voter turnout was up at least four percentage points, with Port Moody recording the highest interest at 35%.

The expenses paid for election staff wages, the rental of voting machines and other administrative costs. Finance staff from Coquitlam and Port Moody say they are still waiting for minor invoices to come in.
