Programs are up and running now to support struggling seniors as well as renters who can't pay their bills during the COVID-19 crisis.

There are new resoruces for people in crisis during the COVID-19 crisis. Here are two that may help Tri-City residents.

FOR SENIORS

Share Family and Community Services has been declared a COVID-19 response hub to help Tri-City seniors get groceries and other support during the pandemic.

Seniors seeking assistance and volunteers willing to help are asked to contact bc211 (dial 2-1-1 or visit www.bc211.ca). The information will then be forwarded to Share’s Better at Home COVID response agency and someone will then match local volunteers with seniors who need help.

Services include phone and/or virtual check-ins, grocery shopping and delivery, meal preparation and delivery, prescription pickup and drop-off.

FOR RENTERS

Share Family and Community Services has started the TriCities Rent Bank, which makes loans available to Tri-City residents who have short term financial issues that are putting their tenancy in jeopardy.

In the works for several months, the rent bank is now up and running for people in difficult circumstances.

The Rent Bank program works to provide interest free loans to market renters, to help them maintain their tenancy through help with their rent payment, or a hydro/natural gas payment or security deposit. Loans are to be repaid over 18-24 months. Other supports and referrals will be offered as needed. Call 604-529-5146  or email [email protected]
