The City of Port Moody is accepting applications for its civic committees.

Frustrated by traffic on St. Johns Street? Dismayed there's not enough art in the City of the Arts?

Residents of Port Moody have opportunities to do something about their aggravations or help make the things they like even better by joining civic committees that advise council in its work to shape the city's future.

"Whether you're passionate about a specific aspect of community life — from arts and culture or economic development to transportation or parks and environment — or you'd like to help out and make a difference wherever you can, your community needs your voice," said Mayor Meghan Lahti in a news release.

Applications for the following committees are being accepted until Nov. 30:

  • Arts, culture and heritage
  • Climate action
  • Economic development and tourism
  • Inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility (IDEA)
  • Land use
  • Parks and environment
  • Seniors focus
  • Transportation

Appointments for the voluntary positions are announced by the mayor in December and take effect on Jan. 1, 2024. They last for two years and members can only serve on one committee at a time.

The city is also accepting applications for its Board of Variance which considers requests to relax certain bylaws related to development.
