Canadian Blood Services is looking for "heroes" in the Tri-Cities to donate to its ongoing cause.
The organization is set to host five donation stations throughout the month of August, including one as early as BC Day Monday (Aug. 1) in hopes of saving more than one person's life.
This includes one in each municipality — one in Coquitlam, three in Port Coquitlam and one in Port Moody — and donations of blood, platelets and plasma are needed for patients in need of treatment this summer.
"We are grateful for those donors, but many more are needed to support patients now and in the future, especially with the unpredictability of the pandemic," reads a statement sent to the Tri-City News from Canadian Blood Services.
"We need more than 100,000 new donors in Canada this year to keep up with demand."
The society adds one in 81 Canadians choose to donate blood each year because they're eligible to do so.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Canadian Blood Services experienced the smallest donor base in 10 years following a decrease of 31,000 people.
