Students in Grades 11 and 12 can sign up for a series of training sessions that will give them a glimpse into the life of an RCMP officer.
Now in its 15th year, the course includes presentations, hands-on training and real-life demonstrations from police officers. Topics include general duty police work, forensic identification, drugs, police dog services, air services, traffic enforcement, the emergency response team, tactical troop training, polygraph unit and the underwater dive team.
Students will also get to take part in hands-on police defence tactics and police physical testing, as well as take a tour of a maximum-security correctional facility.
The course includes nine training sessions on Monday evenings starting April 8 and running to May 25, as well as two Saturday sessions on May 11 and 25, and takes place at the Coquitlam RCMP detachment (2986 Guildford Way).
Course fee is $130 per student; money raised goes to RCMP scholarships. Financial assistance is available and some school career preparation programs may cover the cost as well.
