A Coquitlam resident is warning recreational archers to be more careful about which direction they shoot their arrows.

Jeff Creed told The Tri-City News this week he found a bolt with approximately 100-feet of fishing line tied to it stuck in some bushes while hiking around Ridge Park Loop Trail on Westwood Plateau.

“I am guessing that it probably came from one of the houses around there,” he said.

The arrow point was wrapped in electrical tape and had a plastic tip but Creed said it would still hurt if it were to hit a hiker. He added that he was also concerned about the attached fishing line being left in the woods. “I thought, ‘I don’t want any animals getting caught in this,’” he said.

He phoned Coquitlam RCMP and an officer retrieved the arrow. Mounties said there had not been any reports of people firing bows in the area.

Creed, who routinely hikes the loop, said it is a popular trail, particularly during the warm summer months.
