Tri-City residents get to celebrate the holidays with two visits of the Canadian Pacific Railway Holiday Train - one in Port Moody and one in Port Coquitlam.
On Monday, Dec. 16, the gaily-decorated train will roll into PoMo, the city of the arts, at 5:25 p.m., before making its final stop at the Port Coquitlam West Coast Express Station (2125 Kingsway Ave.) at 7:15 p.m.
In both cities there will be fun before the train comes to celebrate the season and raise funds for Share Family and Community Services.
At Trasolini Field behind the Port Moody Recreation Complex (300 Ioco Road) there will be pre-train activities starting at 4:30 p.m., including hot chocolate, a bonfire, music by Port Moody's community band and egg nog ice cream.
Port Coquitlam's festivities will begin at 6:15 with a free skate at the PoCo rec complex. and will include free cocoa and cupcakes. These events are wrapping up the city's 100 anniversary.
The holiday train is about 1,000 feet long and features 14 rail cars, decorated with hundreds of thousands of LED lights and holiday designs.
There will be holiday music by Juno-awarding winning Melanie Doane and Juno nominated Matt Dusk at both stops (5:45 in PoMo, 7:30 in PoCo). People are encouraged to bring a donation for Share.
In PoCo, free parking will be available at the rec complex and people are advised to dress for the weather.
This is the CP Holiday Train's 15th anniversary. The three-week, 10,000-kilometre journey began Nov. 26 in Beaconsfield, Quebec and will visit more than 150 communities before its final performance in Port Coquitlam.
