It's the homestretch for the civic and school board election campaigns.

And Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam voters have at least one more chance to cast their ballots early.

From 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, advance polling stations will be set up at the Poirier community centre (630 Poirier St., Coquitlam) and the Elks Hall (2272 Leigh Sq., PoCo).

As well, Coquitlam hosts its last advance voting opportunity on Friday, Nov. 14 at Pinetree community centre (1260 Pinetree Way).

Judging by the results from Coquitlam and Port Moody's returns last Saturday, interest in this year's elections is strong: A total of 1,173 PoMo voters made their mark on Nov. 5 and 8 - 125% higher than in 2011. And at Coquitlam's two stations at Dogwood Pavilion and Pinetree community centre last Saturday, 1,305 voters filled in their ballots, bringing the total for Nov. 5 and 8 to 1,872 people.

City spokesperson Kathleen Vincent said it's unknown whether the higher turnout at the advance polls will translate to an larger turnout overall. Three years ago, 26% of eligible voters in Port Moody turned out while the numbers were lower in Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam - 21.7% and 20.8% respectively.

General election day is Saturday, Nov. 15. Go to tricitynews.com/municipalelection to learn about the contenders.
