A Coquitlam man will avoid jail time for his role in last year's Stanley Cup Riot in downtown Vancouver.

Robert Snelgrove was sentenced to five months house arrest and 16 months probation after pleading guilty to one count of participating in a riot and one count of break and enter. The 25-year-old will also have to pay a $500 victim surcharge and is expected to serve his house arrest at his parents' home in Coquitlam.

Snelgrove admitted in court to stealing $150 worth of face cream from Sears while the riot was taking place, according to CKNW.

The riot incident is not the first time Snelgrove has run into legal troubles. B.C.'s court services website shows that in April, he was charged along with two others with 10 counts of possession for the purposes of trafficking stemming from a drug raid on a home in December. His trial on those charges is expected to begin in Vancouver Provincial Court in January 2013.

Since last year's riot, a handful of Tri-City residents have faced charges.

Ryan Dickinson, a 20-year-old from Coquitlam, received a 17-month jail sentence for his role in the riot. He was captured on surveillance cameras outside the Black and Lee tuxedo store, where he threw a mannequin and then a newspaper box at the window. Dickinson was on bail for an earlier assault charge at the time of his arrest.

Patrick Judge, a 25-year-old Port Moody resident, has also been charged with participating in a riot, one count of break and enter and two counts of mischief.

And several young offenders who cannot be identified have also been arrested and are facing similar charges.

According to the Vancouver Police Department's Riot 2011 website (riot2011.vpd.ca), more than 120 rioters have been charged with Crown prosecutors considering charges for another 100. In total, 674 charges have been recommended and 318 have been approved.
