Info meeting planned on Pinetree improvements in Coquitlam

Coquitlam residents will get an opportunity to learn more about the city's efforts to beautify Pinetree Way between the Barnet Highway and Town Centre Boulevard.

Coquitlam residents will get an opportunity to learn more about the city's efforts to beautify Pinetree Way between the Barnet Highway and Town Centre Boulevard.

An information meeting is being held this week that outlines the efforts to improve landscaping, create more seating and lighting and enhance traffic flows in the area.

According to a city press release, the $14 million project will be funded by developers' fees and grants and will take place in conjunction with the construction of the Evergreen Line.

"The project also intends to transform the corridor into an appealing, functional streets cape that encourages people to walk, cycle and gather in the city centre," said the press release. "Planned improvements include a multi-use pathway with partial weather protection, wide sidewalks, pedestrian-activated signals, rest areas, public art and greenery, improved lighting and signage, safe and attractive bus stops, street parking in select locations and traffic safety and operational improvements."

The information session will take place on Sept. 17 between 6 and 8 p.m. in the Coquitlam city hall council chambers (3000 Guildford Way). Those in attendance can view display boards and a 3-D animation video, ask questions of city staff and consultants and provide comments.
