Coquitlam RCMP are releasing a composite sketch of one of two alleged suspects in a sexual assault that occurred in Coquitlam in the early morning hours of Thursday, April 16.
Although the incident happened a few weeks ago, the information is being released now as part of the investigation in the hopes of getting some information from the public.
"We want people to look at the sketch and tell us who he is," media spokesperson Cpl. Jamie Chung said.
There wasn't enough information for a sketch of the second individual, however, but a description has been provided instead.
Police say the assault occurred just after 2:30 a.m. on April 16 when a young woman walking home in the area of Foster Avenue and Linton Street was stopped by two men in a silver SUV, possibly a Dodge Durango, and asked for directions. During the conversation, one of the men exited the SUV and forced the woman into the vehicle where she was sexually assaulted.
This photo, released by the Coquitlam RCMP, shows the type of SUV police are looking for or information related to it.
A few minutes later the victim was dropped off in the area of Austin Avenue and Draycott Street. She reported the crime the next day and is cooperating with the police.
As a result, a police sketch artist created a composite sketch of one of the suspects, who investigators believe was the driver. The driver of the vehicle is described a dark-skinned man in his mid to late 20s with short dark hair and dark eyes. He had no facial hair and no accent when speaking.
The passenger, who allegedly committed the assault, is described as dark-skinned, in his mid to late 20s, with short dark hair and dark eyes and approximately 5'7" tall. His weight is unknown and he had no accent when speaking.
Police are also looking for the vehicle, which is described as a silver SUV, possibly a first generation Dodge Durango (1998-2003).
Chung said the assault was random, not targeted, and rare for Coquitlam.
