Port Coquitlam firefighters do not want to be left off the invite list when city residents hold block parties this summer.
A free outreach initiative encourages organizers of community events to invite local fire crews, which can provide safety information on a variety of topics.
The program was launched in 2005 to improve safety and give local adults and children the opportunity to meet firefighters and see some of the lifesaving equipment they use.
Crews have attended hundreds of neighbourhood events and can tailor the theme to include a range of topics, including helmet safety, barbecue safety, use of fire extinguishers and testing and maintenance of smoke alarms.
