With warm weather in the forecast, the city of Coquitlam is reminding residents to keep their distance on trails and in parks to limit the spread of COVID-19 this holiday long weekend.
Park hosts will be ramping up efforts to ensure people are following the recommendations of provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and saying at least two metres apart.
“The city is assigning park hosts, extending their hours and introducing single-file traffic at busy times at the [Coquitlam] Crunch to address the anticipated increase in demand over the long weekend,” the city said in a press release Thursday.
More than 20 additional staff wearing high-visibility shirts and vests will be stationed at Como Lake Park, the Crunch and the Lafarge Lake Loop, where one-way traffic is also in place.
There will also be roving park hosts at Blue Mountain, Cottonwood, Mackin, Panorama, Galloway and Riley. Trails at Mundy Park, Coquitlam River Park and Crystal Falls trailhead will also be monitored.
“The public has been receptive to the city’s efforts to promote physical distancing and keep the parks open, with many taking the time to thank staff for their work,” the city said. “The park hosts will be in place for the duration of the public health crisis.”
