Kurdi family to call Coquitlam home

Tima Kurdi welcomed her brother and his family at YVR on Monday morning.
The brother of Coquitlam resident Tima Kurdi and his family waved Canadian flags and shouted out "Thank you, Canada" after they passed through customs at Vancouver International Airport this morning (Monday).

The story of the family went international after the body of Kurdi's three-year-old nephew, from another brother, washed up on a Turkish beach earlier this year while he and his family tried to flee their war-torn country for Greece. Alan Kurdi's father, Abdullah, survived the journey but his wife and other son did not.

Tima Kurdi said her brother, Mohammad Kurdi, and his family — of which she is sponsoring — will start a new life in Coquitlam. It is expected Mohammad will join her as a stylist in her new hair salon in Port Coquitlam.

More to come......
