RCMP are asking Coquitlam commuters to plan an alternate route today (Feb. 23) if you're headed towards the Eagle Ridge neighbourhood.
Spokesperson Const. Deanna Law confirms to the Tri-City News the 1300-block of Lansdowne Drive is closed in both directions — and will be "for awhile" — as police are responding to an active situation that allegedly started as a break-and-enter call.
This includes the RCMP's Emergency Response Team (ERT).
Around 12 p.m., officers received a call from someone in a home claiming a break-in was in progress.
However, the person eventually hung up and police have not been able to make contact since.
No suspects were found in the area, following an initial investigation.
Law said there doesn't appear to be any forced entry into the home, which is believed to have one occupant.
"We're just looking to confirm the well-being of individual inside," Law said. "We're making sure everyone gets out safe."
Law added safety is the top priority for police in these scenarios, so there's no rush to make quick decisions.
She said ERT is on scene with RCMP because they have access to more equipment should it be needed.
