Letter: Coquitlam should be paying PoCo to accommodate Burke growth

Port Coquitlam is carrying the extra weight that the City of the Coquitlam is adding on Burke Mountain with no plans to stop building up there, states the letter writer.

The Editor:

Considering the amount of traffic has increased since 2016 on the main road of Coast Meridian Road and recent data showing majority of that traffic is coming from Burke Mountain, the City of Coquitlam ought to be paying the City of Port Coquitlam for the improvements we must now bear the cost of to accommodate their infrastructure and residential needs.

What used to take 10 minutes on Coast Meridian to get from Lougheed Highway to Coquitlam Avenue now takes almost 20 minutes.

If you need to drive to Prairie Avenue, add 30 minutes to your commute.

Port Coquitlam is carrying the extra weight that the City of the Coquitlam is adding on Burke Mountain with no plans to stop building up there.

In addition to the extra traffic congestion PoCoo residents have faced and continue to face, we are also seeing upticks in wildlife because of the development on Burke Mountain.

The City of Coquitlam has overbuilt Burke Mountain and as a result of this, Port Coquitlam has become over-congested with traffic in every possible direction.
