Letter: Our governments are doing too much — and not well

Taxes and/or government debt continue to rise to historic levels due to massive spending by all three levels of government in areas they are not constitutionally responsible for, the Port Coquitlam letter writer states.
Brad West - PCCC
Port Coquitlam Mayor Brad West.

The Editor:

Port Coquitlam Mayor Brad West opined on the radio recently that many municipalities are wading into areas outside their core areas of responsibility, resulting in high and escalating property taxes, while their core competencies are suffering.

I agree.

Unfortunately, we also see the same messes being created at the provincial and federal levels across the country.

Taxes and/or government debt continue to rise to historic levels due to massive spending by all three levels of government in areas they are not constitutionally responsible for.

They do this for one reason only: To enhance their prospects for re-election.

The results of all politicians trying to be all things to all people are all too clear.

We are bombarded daily with news of another fiasco in the management of our treasury.

All parties do this and it's time we demanded these folks stop trying to do everything badly and do fewer things better — starting with their own laundry.
