November flooding across the Tri-Cities included the closure of the parking lot at Gates Park in Port Coquitlam.

This is not an April Fool's Day prank.

Lots of rain is expected to fall on the Tri-Cities over the next four days.

So much so that Environment Canada is warning the region of potential localized flooding this weekend resulting from the predicted deluge — primarly all day Sunday (April 3) and into Monday morning (April 4).

A special weather statement has been put in place, as a result, for Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Anmore and Belcarra and across other Metro Vancouver areas.

According to Environment Canada meteorologists, there's a 60 per cent chance of rain set for Saturday (April 2).

The rain will then kick into another gear with heavier drops in the 24 hours that follow, coupled with strong winds gusting at a minimum of 40 km/h.

"Over the latter half of the weekend, a strong onshore flow will develop and direct a developing storm system towards the south coast," reads the weather statement that went into effect before 6:30 a.m. today (April 1).

"Rain is expected to develop across the region early Sunday morning and intensify that evening. Upslope areas from the Lower Sunshine Coast to the Lower Fraser Valley are expected to receive the heaviest amounts of precipitation through the period. Heavy rain should ease to showers by Monday morning."

If the weather heightens and worsens, Environment Canada says rainfall and wind warnings could also be issued in the days ahead

The good news: temperatures will remain on the positive side of the thermometer.

The mercury could hover at a peak between 10 and 15 C each day this weekend, while dropping to an overnight low of 6 or 7 C.
