Long-serving trustee won't run again in Coquitlam

After five terms as a Coquitlam school trustee, Brian Robinson is calling it quits, saying it's time to pass on the torch. "I will be 78 this November and feel that a further four years would not be wise," the veteran trustee said in a press release.

After five terms as a Coquitlam school trustee, Brian Robinson is calling it quits, saying it's time to pass on the torch.

"I will be 78 this November and feel that a further four years would not be wise," the veteran trustee said in a press release. "I would hate to be the cause of a byelection."

Robinson began his political career in 1976 when he won a seat on Coquitlam city council. In 1999, he turned his attention to education, becoming a Coquitlam school trustee when the district, the third largest in B.C., was entering a period of growth.

So far, two other incumbents have announced their intentions to run in the Nov. 15 civic election: Port Moody trustees Melissa Hyndes and Keith Watkins.

Other trustee candidates who have announced are: Jodie Wickens, Carol Cahoon and Shari O'Neill in Coquitlam; Celia Chiang in Anmore/Belcarra; Jeanette Jackson in Port Moody; and Michael Thomas in Port Coquitlam.
