The Coquitlam Animal Shelter tends to see a spike in business during the hot summer months, with more stray cats being brought in than at other times of year.
And this year is no exception.
The city pound currently has dozens of furry felines available - and it has set a goal to adopt out an average of a cat a day in August.
Currently, shelter staff have under their care 45 cats plus a litter of kittens in foster care that are not yet ready for adoption.
"There is usually a cat to suit any loving, cat-friendly home," said Andrea McDonald, Coquitlam's manager of bylaw and animal control services. "We suggest people come to the shelter and interact with the cats in our adoption room. Usually, a cat will choose you."
The shelter, located at 500 Mariner Way, near Mundy Park is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m and on weekends and holidays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information and to complete an adoption form, go to coquitlam.ca/pets.
