A Port Coquitlam man who was caught allegedly stealing lottery tickets from a local liquor store last month is now facing additional charges from three different RCMP detachments.
Last month, Coquitlam RCMP reported the 37-year-old was a suspect in a string of robberies in Coquitlam, PoCo and Maple Ridge that had taken place throughout the 2012 holiday season. After he was arrested fleeing the PoCo liquor store, Anthony Bakker was charged with three counts of robbery with a weapon and one count of theft.
Investigators have since added 20 new charges, including 10 robberies and two thefts that occurred in Coquitlam and PoCo, six robberies in Pitt Meadows and Maple Ridge, and two robberies in Burnaby.
Cpl. Jamie Chung said the investigation was a co-ordinated effort by robbery section investigators in Coquitlam, Burnaby and Ridge Meadows RCMP detachments.
"Officers on the team put in countless hours of hard work during the project, resulting in the seizure of a large amount of stolen lottery tickets," Chung said.
Bakker has been in custody since his Jan. 4 arrest and is due back in court on Feb. 28.
