A major hospital serving the Tri-Cities has declared a COVID-19 outbreak over after it managed to contain transmission of the coronavirus to one of the hospital’s medicine units
The unit at Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster has been under enhanced cleaning protocols since the outbreak was declared Nov. 19, and contact tracers have investigated any possible transmission of the virus.
Fraser Health is now urging anyone in the region to use its COVID-19 assessment tool and get tested should they present even the mildest symptoms.
The good news comes as nearby Burnaby Hospital struggles with dozens of cases of COVID-19 and the after effects of a fire that gutted part of the acute care facility.
By Tuesday, five people had died from COVID-19 at the Burnaby hospital and 55 had tested positive.
