An 80-year-old man remains in serious condition with several broken bones after he was struck by a car Tuesday night while crossing St. Johns Street in Port Moody.

Const. Luke van Winkel of Port Moody Police Department told The Tri-City News that at approximately 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, the man was running across St. Johns at Moody Street against the red light.

"An eastbound Pontiac station wagon was proceeding through the intersection on a green light and was unable to stop," van Winkel said.

The man was rushed to hospital with serious injuries and was still there Thursday morning. Neither speed nor alcohol are considered contributing factors in the accident and no charges will be laid against the driver.

The name of the injured man has not been released pending notification of his family, van Winkel said.
