Port Moody Police have arrested a man that was openly masturbating near a trail in Bert Flinn Park Wednesday afternoon.
A lone female jogger spotted the male and quickly ran from the scene until she was able to get her phone and call police.
The man was arrested in the area and later releasd on conditions adn is facing indecent exposure charges .
In a press release, Port Moody Const. Luke van Winkel said people need to aware of their surroundings and should always take steps to ensure their safety when they are alone on the trails.
"This includes utilizing well lit places whenever possible, running with a friend, carrying a cellular phone, keeping music down or using only one ear-bud when walking or running," he wrote in the release. "While incidents like this are rare in the community, they can serve as a reminder to all of us that we must all do our part to keep ourselves and our community safe."
Two similar incidents occurred in Coquitlam last month.
In both cases a man was seen exposing himself in the neighbourhoods around Centennial school.
Van Winkel told The Tri-City News that the investigation in Port Moody is ongoing and that police would be liaising with Coquitlam RCMP to determine if there is any connection between the cases.
