A swimmer in distress who was pulled from Sasamat Lake on Sunday has died, according to the B.C. Coroners Service.

The 24-year-old male, who has not been identified, was earlier said to be in critical condition after he was airlifted to hospital from White Pine beach.

Park goers helped pull the man to shore, where staff and police, who arrived shortly after 1:30 p.m., were able to conduct CPR.

However on Monday the B.C. Coroners Service confirmed that the man had died from the injuries he sustained drowning in the lake.

"This person was airlifted to hospital," said Barbara McLintock, a coroner with the service. "Unfortunately, he didn't make it. Our investigation is quite in the preliminary stages."
