Emergency crews descended in an area behind a Coquitlam school early this morning (May 8) after a man died of a reported fatal stabbing.
Coquitlam RCMP and other first responders quickly responded to the call around 12:40 a.m. to find a man with life-threatening injuries at the back of Glen Elementary — located at 3064 Glen Dr.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has since been deployed and believed to be taking lead on the case.
While the investigation is still in the early stages, investigators confirm one person is in custody at this point.
Although one person has been arrested, police continue to treat this investigation as active and ongoing to determine the circumstances, states Cpl. Paige Kuz, Coquitlam RCMP Media Relations Officer.
Photos provided to the Tri-City News show emergency crews working in an area directly behind the school on the other side of a fence, with police tape put up to cordon off the area.
According to a witness on the scene, police and paramedics located the victim with "severe wounds and not breathing."
Crews performed life-saving measures including CPR, but tragically the victim died at the scene.
There is no word on possible suspects or a motive as yet and the Tri-City News will update when more information becomes available.
