A man has been identified as a person of interest in the alleged sexual assault of a child at Coquitlam's Town Centre Park in May but police have yet to make an arrest.

Coquitlam RCMP Cpl. Jamie Chung said police could not name the person but said the investigation is far from over.

"Based on tips from the public and our investigators, we were able to piece the case together and positively identify him," he said. "We know who he is and we know where he is."

The incident occurred on May 12, when a six-year-old girl told her father that a man had touched her inappropriately while at the park.

Coquitlam RCMP officers searched the area extensively but were unable to locate any suspects.

"We are taking this investigation very seriously," Chung said at the time. "We have increased patrols in the area to look for the suspect."

A sketch was distributed to the media.

On Thursday, Chung would not elaborate on the status of the investigation. He said the detachment's sex crimes investigators were still working the case and that it would be some time before more information was released.
