Man shot with pellet gun, bear sprayed during robbery Tuesday night

Coquitlam RCMP are investigating after a man claiming to have been shot and robbed was found in from of the Safeway at Sunwood Square Tuesday night. Shortly before 10:40 p.m.

Coquitlam RCMP are investigating after a man claiming to have been shot and robbed was found in from of the Safeway at Sunwood Square Tuesday night.

Shortly before 10:40 p.m. the man was robbed near Pipeline Road and Lincoln Avenue; he was also shot with a pellet gun and bear sprayed.

It's not clear whether he was robbed while he was in his vehicle but after the incident he managed to drive himself to Sunwood Square a few blocks away. He was then able to flag down several fire fighters in the area and police were called.

The man was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Investigators say the attack was not random and the public is safe.

"We believe it is targeted but for reasons we cannot disclose at this time because we are still investigating, but we don't believe the public is at risk at all," said Cpl. Jamie Chung.
