Coquitlam RCMP are seeking a suspect they believe is responsible for robbing and carjacking a taxi driver just after midnight on December 1.

The suspect was picked up in Maple Ridge and was traveling along Broadway Street in Port Coquitlam when he threatened the driver and ordered him to get out of the cab. He then took off in the vehicle with an undisclosed amount of money.

"In cases like this, you shouldn't argue with the bad guy," said Coquitlam RCMP Cpl. Jamie Chung. "Money and a vehicle can be replaced. Your life can't be replaced."

The taxi was recovered a short distance away and Chung said it did not appear to be damaged.

Police are seeking a Caucasian male between the age of 28 and 32 with a healthy build, a dark handlebar mustache and a fair complexion. At the time of the incident, the suspect was wearing a baseball style blue wool hat, a grey and blue puff jacket and dark grey pants.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call the Coquitlam RCMP at 604-945-1550 and quote file number 2013-35274. Those who wish to provide information anonymously can do so by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or by going online at www.solvecrime.ca.
