Traffic appears to be getting through on the Mary Hill Bypass through Port Coquitlam after a large pothole forced several closures today (Dec. 1).

However, the westbound left lane remains closed along Highway 7B between United Boulevard and Shaughnessy Street as crews continue to fix, repair and patch the road.

Commuters heading in this direction are backed up beyond Shaughnessy and around the bend.

Eastbound lanes are fully open, but repairs are currently causing a visual distraction.

More to come...

11:50 a.m.

Crews are looking to fill a large pothole that appeared on a major Tri-City route early this morning (Dec. 1).

After 4:15 a.m., DriveBC first reported the Mary Hill Bypass west of the Coquitlam River Bridge was closed in both directions due to the pothole between United Boulevard and Shaughnessy Street.

Since then, the eastbound lanes have re-opened.

Westbound remains closed, with traffic sitting and backing up beyond Shaughnessy Street.

It's still unclear when crews will complete repairs and open that stretch of Highway 7B.

Commuters are being encouraged to consider an alternate route.

This marks the second straight day traffic has been impacted along a portion of the Mary Hill Bypass.

On Tuesday (Nov. 30), a vehicle fire closed the intersection with Pitt River Road, closing Highway 7B for several hours as crews worked to extinguish the flames and remove the debris.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident and RCMP confirmed to the Tri-City News a mechanical failure caused the apparent dump truck to go ablaze.
