Local mayors, business leaders and other community representatives are donning traditional whites for an old-fashioned game of croquet this Thursday, July 9 to raise funds for the Port Coquitlam Community Foundation.
And the public is invited to watch the fun and dine with the participants during the inaugural Mayor's Croquet Tournament, presented by Dynamic Structures.
Tickets are still available for the event that will be held on the banks of the Fraser River at the private Mackenzie residence, on the grounds of Harken Towing in Port Coquitlam.
Approximately 200 guests have been invited and 40 players, including Port Coquitlam mayor Greg Moore and Surrey Mayor Linda Hepner, for a fun-filled croquet tournament.
The event consists of three sets of 40 minute games with the playoff round starting at 5 p.m. "Our purpose introducing this unique fundraising event is to bring the community together and bring awareness about our cause, mission and impact in the community. This milestone event is not typical of what Port Coquitlam has offered in the past and we expect it to be one of the most memorable fundraising experiences," stated Janine Davies, foundation president, in a press release.
Spectators and players alike will enjoy live music and entertainment, cocktail dinner, an awards ceremony and a live auction with unique prizes to bid on.
Also attending the event that will run from 1:30 to 9 p.m. will be Port Moody Westwood MP James Moore and Port Coquitlam MLA Mike Farnworth.
The foundation is a not-profit charitable organization that was set up in 2012 to help worthy organizations focused on youth issues, seniors issues, homelessness, arts and culture and organized sports.
Tickets are $95 for spectators and $65 for dinner. To purchase tickets, visit www.pocofoundation.com
