Medical condition may have been a factor in crash

Coquitlam RCMP have ruled out speed, drugs and alcohol in an accident that occurred last Tuesday when a driver lost control of his vehicle on Westminster Avenue in Port Coquitlam

Police now say a medical issue may have been a factor in an accident last week involving a black Dodge truck that grazed a pedestrian, struck and killed a dog and hit a tree, a traffic sign and a house before coming to rest on its side in the 1600 block of Westminster Avenue in Port Coquitlam.

Coquitlam RCMP Cpl. Jamie Chung would not give details of the medical factor owing to privacy concerns but said police ruled out speed, drugs and alcohol as factors in the crash that occurred approximately 9:40 a.m. Tuesday, May 26.

The driver suffered serious but non life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital while the pedestrian suffered minor injuries, Chung said.

No charges have been laid. "Investigators will be working on this until the file is closed," Chung said.

The incident occurred just a block away from James Park elementary school.
