Missing Coquitlam woman's vehicle found in ditch after Highway 1 crash

The vehicle was unoccupied when police arrived and the incident took place two days after Jodine Millar's last known sighting.

It appears the vehicle associated with a missing "high-risk" woman from Coquitlam was found unoccupied in a ditch east of Abbotsford earlier this week.

A brown 2011 Hyundai Tucson was the subject of a single-vehicle collision on Highway 1 Monday night (Nov. 28) — two days after Jodine Millar was last seen.

It bore the same Manitoba licence plate number as Millar's — FXU195 — and RCMP are now looking for video footage of the incident as they also continue to search for the 57-year-old new Tri-Cites resident.

"The fact that police have located her vehicle without her is unsettling and increases our concerns for her safety," said Coquitlam detachment spokesperson Cpl. Alexa Hodgins in a statement this afternoon (Nov. 29).

Millar was believed to be travelling in her vehicle from her last known sighting, which was around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday (Nov. 26) at her residence near the intersection of Rochester Avenue and Decaire Street.

At about 8:50 p.m. on Monday, Abbotsford Police (APD) responded to reports of a single-vehicle crash on Highway 1 near the No. 3 Road exit.

Witnesses told the APD they saw the vehicle speeding eastbound "when it veered off the road and into the water-filled ditch."

A police statement adds there was an associated vehicle, a light-coloured sedan, seen leaving the area of the collision. The vehicle in the ditch was found unoccupied when officers arrived.

In an earlier release, Cpl. Hodgins said Millar's family is becoming increasingly concerned for her health and well-being as she recently moved to the Tri-Cities from out of province.

She's also known to frequent local trails with her dog, whom she left at home with family before leaving Saturday night.

In addition to witness statements, police are asking for dash cam, CCTV, surveillance, cell phone and general video of before, during and after the Highway 1 collision in hopes of finding Millar.

Mounties are asking for specific footage between the Whatcom and Yale Road exits from 8:30 and 9:30 p.m. on Monday.

Millar is described as:

  • White
  • 5'7"
  • Slim build
  • Light-Brown or dirty-blonde shoulder-length hair
  • Green eyes
  • Last seen wearing...
    • Glasses
    • Black parka jacket
    • Black ski pants
    • Grey hiking shoes
